Today is International Women's Day. The day's theme is Be Bold for Change. We are asked to call on ourselves to help forge a better working world - a more gender inclusive world. I have the honor and privilege of working with amazing women who want to do more to be their authentic selves in both their professional and personal lives.
Often, we feel constricted to show up a certain way, to act a certain way and to say certain things in order to fit in or get along. How is it possible to be who you are, express your authentic self and yet be a team player? That is one of the challenges of leadership - for men and women alike. Unfortunately, women experience more societal pressures to look and act within societal norms - often norms for which we are not fully aware or acknowledge.
On this International Women's Day, I challenge you to ask yourself what you can do to help forge a better working world. What would a better working world look and feel like? What values would be celebrated? How would team members treat each other? What can you do as a leader to move your corner of the world in a more positive direction? What is one change you can make today?
